        Erfurt is the capital of the centrally located German state of Thuringia. The theological originator of the Reformation, Martin Luther, was ordained a priest in Erfurt Cathedral, which dates back to the 8th century. Next to the cathedral is the Gothic Severikirche. Martin Luther lived as a monk in the Augustinian monastery.
